| The name of Comber is synonymous with early potatoes, molly-coddled in the rich soil around here. In a mild spring they are in the shops in April. A monument to a swash-buckling soldier, Sir Robert Rollo Gillespie, occupies a large part of the central square. He was a native of the town and was shot in action in Nepal. He died enunciating the words inscribed on the column: 'One last shot for the honour of Down'. |
